Walking along a canal is very pleasant and peaceful, for the most part. And quiet. (One does encounter the occasional group of boisterous teens. ( I think families with children tend to stay away from the canal for fear the children will fall in.) We've done a few canal boat holidays and found them restful, at least until you run the boat aground. An afternoon's walk with a lunch break at one of the pubs overlooking the canal is always a treat. This time we walked along the Huddersfield Canal at Uppermill. We watched horses playing, saw the heather in full bloom and enjoyed the English countryside. Here are some photos.
